-|- Our Brooder Set Ups! -|-
We were asked awhile back about ou brooders.
We didn't come up with the idea on our own so we give the credit to
whoever it was we got the idea from, we see alot of other people using this same method!
We purchase from Wal-Mart there 90qt. clear tubs
We cut a hole in the lid large, so the heat lamp can get to all edges
of the brooder, then we drill holes in the corners and center of the edge of the cut line.
We then cut wire mesh or some other type of screen you can come up with to fasten to the lid
to keep the birds in and the other critters out!
See photos and other steps below!
Here we have the lids cut and wire installed

Fill with white/pine shavings, or we sometimes use shavings and hay or
the slip/slide resistant shelf liner, easy to clean!

We then place a peice of wood on top of the shavings and then set the water
on top of the wood, this helps the shavings stay out of the water, the
shavings act like wicks and wick the water out fast
also clogs up in the base so there is no water to drink.

Happy Chicks!
We have recently installed water bottles to these brooders,
by drilling a hole in the side and then until we get time to figure out
another way, we just duct tape the bottle to the side of the brooder.
We usually give our Button Quail these bottles at about 2 weeks of age,
and we have had great sucess with the quail, ducks, and chicken babies
on the water bottles, gives them more room in the brooder
AND make less of a water mess! These ARE rabbit/rodent sized water bottles.
No pictures of this right now sorry!
